Motherapp was born in 2008, inspired by a belief in the positive power of technology. Our name reminds us of our role as the “mother of applications.” To us, software isn’t just code; it is a creation that we love, take care of, and bring up to do good in the world.

A History of Solving Problems

For over a decade, our methods have evolved, but our purpose has remained the same. We have always been pioneers in using the right tool for the right human problem.

When the iPhone first launched, we saw a way to connect communities, building one of the first mobile apps for TED Talks to spread great ideas. When theme parks faced overcrowding, we used IoT to help millions of visitors spend their time better. When cities needed to become safer and more efficient, we applied Computer Vision and AI to create smarter environments.

The Next Chapter: From Data to Empathy

As we worked deeper into the digital age, we noticed a new problem. While brands were collecting more information than ever, the connection between businesses and customers was becoming distant. Loyalty had become about points and transactions, not people.

We realized that technology shouldn’t make relationships feel robotic—it should make them feel personal.

Today, we are focusing our expertise on a new frontier: The O2O Empathy Engine.

Extended our consulting expertise to clients across 7 countries, establishing Motherapp as a trusted partner for mobile solutions and digital transformation on a regional scale

Launched our UX (User Experience) Unit, becoming among the first to implement design-driven agile processes that put user experience at the center of app development—an approach now followed by leading developers worldwide

2009

HKTDC became our first consulting client, initiating a long-term partnership that continues today and demonstrating our capacity to serve major institutional clients

2008

Achieved recognition at the prestigious Hong Kong ICT Awards

Launched OpenRice, our first app, which rapidly entered the Top 10 in the Hong Kong App Store where it remained for many years—establishing Motherapp as an early leader in consumer mobile applications

Built a platform application that enables developers to create consumer and enterprise app development projects, and officially launched Motherapp, inspired by a belief in the positive power of technology

2007

The idea for Motherapp was conceived by Ken Law, an original Google team member and computer science graduate from HKUST with a master’s degree from Stanford, after witnessing the transformative potential of iPhone apps—bringing Silicon Valley innovation to Hong Kong to pioneer mobile app development at the dawn of the smartphone era

Ken Law
Founder

Ken came from a background of computer science from HKUST and a masters from Stanford University.

Before setting up Motherapp in Hong Kong, Ken was a Silicon Valley original, and part of Google’s early team of only a hundred staff. There, he developed a patented algorithm to find associated webpages and a sentiment analysis based on big data. Upon his return to Hong Kong in 2008, he started Motherapp – a pioneer in mobile app development, before Android devices even existed.

Ken is the Young Entrepreneur Award Winner of the prestigious Hong Kong Business Awards in 2016. Now, he is leading the company to greater heights in applied artificial intelligence and data analytics for several industries, covering retail, manufacturing and public sectors in Hong Kong and Greater Asia.

Arthur Leung
Director of Operations

Motherapp’s Director of Operations and Head of Project Management & Delivery, Arthur has been with Motherapp since 2015.

Before joining Motherapp, Arthur’s strong portfolio saw several successes with internal IT projects in reputable organizations such as PCCW and the MTR corporation.

With his knowledge & practical working experience in project management, he holds the CMMI Level 5 appraisal for PCCW Hong Kong Telecom, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Arthur has also recently completed the Strategic Management Executive Program of Business Process Design at MIT Sloan School of Management.

Stella Kam
Director of Solutions

Stella is our Director of Solutions and she leads our solution team to expand businesses in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Her passion is to turn customers’ business pain points into business opportunities through digital transformation strategies.

In her early years, she participated in advocating the application of User Experience (UX) to the digital transformation of customers. She had more than ten years of experience in digital solutions such as mobile solution development, marketing automation and enterprise grade CRM.

In recent years, she focused on helping companies to establish O2O strategies and increase customer lifetime value (CLV) for their customers, using AI and IOT solutions to help companies to implement smart city and smart operations strategies, and making good use of UX to create customised digital transformation solutions for the enterprises.
